First They Came…

After fighting for a week to get into my CafePress.com online store, I finally managed to upload my latest artwork for a politically in-your-face tshirt.

First They Came tshirt art

After hearing and seeing the story about the imams who were tossed off a flight for daring to pray in an airport, and reading about a radio talkshow host who got several of his listeners to bite on a hoax announcement that Muslims were about to be required to wear crescent armbands and get tattoos identifying them as Muslims, I just had to respond.

So I did the usual sending of disgusted email to my congresscritters, and I posted about it at The Daily Kos, but I wanted to do more. Then the old quote about “First they came for the Jews…” hit me and I knew it was time for a rewrite.

I mean, I’m a Pagan, not a Muslim. I don’t agree with Muslim theology about much of anything and I’m sure I would be targeted if I traveled in the Middle East and any of the local lunatics found out about my beliefs. But that’s not the point! I live in America and we’re supposed to honor people’s freedom of (and from) religion.

So if you’re looking for a unique Yule gift for that Muslim, Unitarian, or civil liberties activist on your list, just drop on by my store and snap up a few shirts or coffee mugs (I decided beer steins probably weren’t appropriate).

If people are interested in having me make up some buttons or other items with this theme, let me know.

Solstice is the reason!

It’s once again time to be ordering gifts for the winter holidays so you can receive them early enough to mail them to your friends and family. I humbly suggest that the cards, tshirts, totebags, and other items with my cheery solstice graphic might just suit your needs — not to mention enlightening the masses! You will find them in my CafePress.com store, along with other items using Pagan, Green, or Liberal images.

I’ve looked into having lawn signs made for the more courageous of us, but they would cost about $40 each. If enough people ask me about them, and then send the funds for printing, I’ll go ahead and make them.

News from Camp Bonewits

There’s been lots of activity here lately. Bennie, the six-million-dollar kitty seems to be improving, now that we have him on some nuclear powered antibiotics. Our thanks go out to those who donated to the kitty (so to speak) and fired up a few candles for him.

It looks like I’m going to become a Llewellyn author — they are planning to publish a new edition of Rites of Worship late next year. This one will have a new chapter on the use of Music and poetry in liturgy. If it sells well, they might pick up other books in the series like Rites of Intensification and Rites of Passage.

I’ve written the first two of what will be a quarterly column called “Cernunnos’ Corner,” based on my Pagan Man book, in newWitch magazine (in case you haven’t heard of it, it’s a great Pagan mag aimed at teens and twenty- somethings). I may write a column for PanGaia, which is now Pagandom’s leading magazine, as well.

The psychic fairs are starting to bring in small amounts of money on a regular basis, as are the tarot readings over the phone and by email. I hope to get a webcam for my G4 Mac next month so I can use chat software for readings and also to do lectures and workshops over the internet.

Phae is going into her most intense time of the year — the winter holidays at the mall where she sells Select Comfort Sleep Numberâ„¢ beds (see the ad below the tarot ad linked above). Six-day weeks and no weekends off until January!

I’ve sent out emails to festival and event organizers letting them know that now is the time of year to book myself and/or Phaedra for 2007 and 2008. If you run a festival, or own a bookstore or other center that sponsors workshops and lectures, drop me an electron with “2007/mm/dd-dd Event Name (location)” as the Subject line, and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible with booking details — or you can just visit our Schedule Page, Presentations Pages, and Fees and Arrangements Page for what you need to know.

Meanwhile, Phae and I are still working hard on writing Real Energy, now set to be released in March of 2007. Trying to condense quantum physics, chi, mana, and vril into one text is quite the writing challenge!

Wa-hoo! Our Work Is Well Begun.

Sometimes democracy really works! With the American House of Repre- sentatives being swept by progressive and other Democratic candidates, an important step towards restoring sanity has been taken. It looks like control of the Senate will be in limbo for a while as the suddenly fond-of-recounting Republican Party insists on recounting the votes in Virginia.

(Our most immediate magical need now is to saturate the state of Virginia with spells to make sure every single vote is counted correctly and that any illegal activities are quickly exposed.)

I have to admit to be really surprised that there were so few problems with the electronic voting machines and the new election laws in so many states (only a few thousand reports instead of a few million). Perhaps the Republicans just decided that the polls were so indicative of a landslide that they didn’t want to get caught stealing another election — especially with tens of thousands of self-appointed journalists showing up at the polls with cameras — but I’d like to credit our spellcasting of protection and justice around the polls as having played a role as well.

This is not the end of the job, however, since there is plenty of work remaining for American progressives. The House and Senate are still going to be full of people in both political parties who have enabled the Administration’s vile, unamerican, and treasonous policies. People who voted for an unending “war” against a military tactic, who voted to allow the invasion of Iraq for the benefit of Exxon-Mobile and Halliburton, who voted to gut the Constitution, who voted for kidnapping and torture of suspected “terrorists,” who voted to avoid investigating war profiteering and corruption…

Spells for Democracy will still need to be cast in the months and years to come. Progressives within the various political parties will need to find new candidates to run against the enablers in 2008’s primary and general elections. We will be able to assist by doing more revelation spells to expose more crime and corruption in the White House and Congress. Prime targets for these spells should be corporate lackeys enslaved by lobbiest bribes — beginning with those who come from states with progressive governors who could replace them with honest progressives.

We can also work on spells to support real election, campaign, and lobbying reforms that will open up the political process to multiple political parties and make the entire process as transparent and open as possible. This will require us to keep track of such issues on a regular basis by reading right-wing, left-wing, and middle-of-the-bird political blogs and websites, plus doing our our research into the complexities involved in true reforms. We will need to set up databases to keep track of all the info.

I’m planning to devote most of the spring and summer of 2008 to coordinating the research necessary to make our magical work as precise, focused, and effective as possible. I hope that the other members of our Spells for Democracy e-group will stay with the process for as long as is necessary to create an America we can all be proud of again.
