Today I received my Congressman Elliot Engels’ latest email newsletter in which he said: “If we want real energy independence, we must all come to the table and display real leadership and pass meaningful legislation.”<\/p>\n
I believe that real energy independence won’t happen until the Democrats take over the House and Senate, impeach the President and Vice President, and supeana the records of their secret “energy task force.” We can then use the resulting outrage to slap both price controls and an 80% War Tax for the war Halliburton, Enron, Exxon-Mobile, and other energy corporations bought and intended to profit from.<\/p>\n
A War Tax on the wealthiest American corporations and individuals, joined with a reversal of all the tax breaks they purchased from the current Republican majorities, would go a long way towards reducing the current deficits. If the “War on Terror” is a real war, then the wealthy should pay the lion’s share of the expenses, just as they did during WW I and WW II.<\/p>\n
