Upcoming Gigs for July 2009

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

Phae and I are getting all packed up to attend a special all-day event in Ottawa, Ontario this Saturday, July 11th: Fire in the Hearth. Isaac will appear with Dr. Brendan Myers, author of The Other Side of Virtue, Dr. Shelley Rabinovitch, Professor of the Magic, Witchcraft and Occult Phenomena Course, at the University of Ottawa and author of An’ Ye Harm None: Magical Morality & Modern Ethics, and Linda Demissy, Senior Druid of Silver Fox Grove, ADF, and author of Linda’s Book of Pagan Chants.

The next week, from July 21st through 26th, Isaac will be presenting at Starwood XXIX, the East Coast’s largest Pagan-friendly festival, in Sherman, New York. Isaac will discuss Wiccan Ritual Design and Performance, the Laws of Magic, and Neopagan Community—Strengths and Weaknesses. He will also provide Tarot readings, sign books, sing, and otherwise carry on. Starwood is a world unto itself with scholarly presentations, powerful magical rituals, mind-blowing parties, and the biggest bonfire you’ve ever seen—if you live east of the Mississippi, go there!

From July 31st through August 3rd, Isaac will be a Guest of Honor with Philip Carr-Gomm of OBOD and John Michael Greer of AODA at the House of Danu’s Druid Gorsedd in Monterey, California. This looks to be a magnificient weekend of family-friendly Druidic disputation and entertainment—if you live west of the Mississippi, go there!

Note that we no longer haul around boxes of books, CDs, and jewelry to events, so if you’d like your book, music CD, or lecture tape signed, you’ll have to buy it and bring it with you (though some items may be on sale from ACE at Starwood).

Earth Hour Tonight!

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Don’t forget about Earth Hour tonight:

Earth Hour (www.EarthHourUS.org) is a global initiative of WWF in which millions of people around the world will cast a vote in favor of action on climate change by turning off their lights for one hour on March 28, 2009 at 8:30 pm local time. By voting with their light switches, Earth Hour participants will send a powerful, visual message to their leaders demanding immediate action on climate change.

(Stolen from the front page of The Daily Kos.

Phae and I will both be out working tonight from 8:30-9:30 pm, and we always turn the lights out when we leave the house anyway, but tonight our little bit will add to the rest.

Wicked Winter Chocolate Factory
Renaissance Faire

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

I’m really looking forward to the Feb 20–22 Wicked Faire at the Marriott of Hanover hotel in Whippany, New Jersey (phone 973-538-8811 ). Think of it as a combination of an adults-only Renn Faire, a sci-fi convention, a goth gathering, a pirate ship, an LRP gamers’ event, steampunk revival, and a Pagan festival — all rolled up into one weird weekend!

Even more entertaining than the attendees are the people who’ll be performing: famed Pagan group The Gypsy Nomads; “Repo: The Genetic Opera,” with its author and star, Terrance Zdunich; goth heart-throb Voltaire; Ego Likeness; The White Elephant Burlesque Society; stage magician Daniel Greenwolf; and more, including yours truly. I’ll be signing books, giving tarot readings, reading some of my poetry, and answering questions from fans.

The theme this year is the “Wicked Winter Chocolate Factory Renaissance Faire,” and costumes and decor will be, well, sweet. If you’d like to talk with the folks organizing and attending it, and maybe arrange rides, or get advice on what to wear (and not wear), or find out in which rooms the many parties will be taking place, join the Ning group that’s been set up for this and other Wicked events at the Wicked Village.

I’ll see you there!

Beltaine is coming soon!

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

Why am I mentioning Beltaine (May Day) when Yule still isn’t here? Because May traditionally begins the wedding season, and brides and grooms are already planning their ceremonies, months ahead.

To help them with that planning, we’ve opened up two new websites: Hudson Valley Civil Ceremonies, for people wanting secular, new age, or nondenominational weddings, and Unusual Ceremonies, for Druids, Wiccans, Asatruar, Goths, Pirates, Furries, Trekkers, Nudists, Leather Folk, Atheists, Agnostics, Rennies, SCAers, and members of other subcultures and minority belief systems.

Phae and I will be happy to help people get beautiful ceremonies that reflect their actual beliefs (or nonbeliefs) — not just weddings/handfastings, but child welcomings, funerals, house blessings, and more. If there’s one thing we’re really good at, it’s creating top-notch rituals.

So wander on over and take a look. Let us know what you think.

We’re going off to Amsterdam

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

“Amster-, Amster-, dam, dam, dam! Amster-, Amster-, dam, dam, dam!” (Sorry, a childhood song suddenly popped it’s meme into my head.) Tomorrow we’re flying off to the first stop on our 2008 European Tour!

Obviously, we’re very excited, and hoping this will be the first of many such tours. This weekend, were giving workshops in Amsterdam, on Tuesday and Wednesday, we’ll be at the famous Atlantis Bookshop in London, then the next weekend we’re doing workshops and a Druid ritual in Schwerte, Germany (near Dortmund). We should be back home in time to celebrate Halloween and Samhain.

If you’d like us to have the maximum flexibility to increase our income while we’re there, feel free to donate some extra dollars, pounds, or euros.

That’s where I’ll be Saturday, August 2, from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, at the Hands of Change Pagan Picnic, in Johnson Park, Piscataway, NJ. I’ll be pontificating, giving tarot readings, and just hanging out with the New Jersey Pagans.
